Paddington
station, made famous by the marmalade-loving children's
book character, Paddington Bear, was built as the terminus
of the Great Western Railway in 1850 and encompasses
a spectacular train shed with an iron girder roof covering
three-bays. The area around the station is undergoing
redevelopment with the Paddington Basin office complex
being built on former railway land to the north of the
station. Just a short walk from Paddington station,
are many tourist attractions including Regent's Canal
with its waterside restaurants and collection of colourful
canal boats, the picturesque area of Little Venice,
Hyde Park and The Serpentine. |
